TBRC C.A.C.D MCDF 2008 is a Venezuelan single-cask ron selected by That Boutique-y Rum Company, the honest, no-additive UK bottler curated by Peter Holland. Distilled from molasses on a column still and aged 13 years in ex-bourbon wood, it is presented unsweetened at full cask strength.
At 60.1% it carries far more intensity than the soft, sweetened Venezuelan rums it shares a shelf with. The nose is gentler than the proof suggests, with vanilla, light fruit and raisin, while the palate turns oily and rich with raisin and cream toffee. The finish is where the strength shows, oak-driven, intense and notably spicy, building over time rather than hitting all at once. A dry, full-proof single cask that rewards a drop of water and patient drinking, showing the firmer, undosed side of Venezuelan rum.
