Description
Tarima Mediterráneo is a dry white from D.O. Alicante in Valencia, made by the Volver winery, founded in 2004 by Rafael Cañizares within the Jorge Ordóñez group. It blends local Merseguera with Moscatel from twenty hectares of vines on calcareous soils that are very poor in organic matter. That lean, chalky ground limits vigour and yields, concentrating the fruit and lending the wine its freshness and mineral cut, while the Mediterranean climate ripens the grapes fully. Merseguera brings citrus and a light body, and a small share of Moscatel adds floral lift and stone fruit; fermentation is cool in stainless steel with no oak, which keeps the aromatics clean and the palate crisp. The wine is a luminous pale yellow. The nose is fresh pear and green apple with white flowers and a citrus note of freshly cut lemon. The palate is dry and balanced, with orchard fruit, white peach and a clean, faintly saline finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees. It suits lighter seafood, salads and a simple aperitif.
