4 Kilos makes Tanuki Bob in Mallorca from the indigenous Manto Negro with Syrah. Aged in foudre and tank, it shows fresh red cherry, strawberry and a clear saline minerality from the island’s mild Mediterranean climate.
Description
Tanuki Bob is made by 4 Kilos in Felanitx, in the heart of Mallorca, founded in 2006 by Francesc Grimalt and Sergi Caballero. It blends the island's indigenous Manto Negro with Syrah, farmed under environmentally minded, rational agriculture. The climate is mild Mediterranean, with dry warm summers and very little rain, and the maritime setting lends the wine a clear saline character. Manto Negro is a pale, lightly tannic local variety that gives freshness and bright red fruit, while Syrah adds colour, structure and a peppery note. The wine spends nine months in large foudres and nine months in stainless steel tank, a gentle ageing that lets the wood round the texture through slow oxygen exchange while the inert tank preserves the fruit and the marked minerality. The colour is a fresh medium red. The nose leads on red cherry and ripe strawberry over a stony, saline edge with a herbal lift. The palate is medium bodied and savoury, with cool fruit, fine tannins and a salty, mineral finish that reflects its island origin. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees with Mediterranean dishes.
