Tante Hilde Strawberry Rum

Tante Hilde Strawberry is a flavoured, sweetened style rum built on a column still molasses base, dialled down to a soft 35% and pointed squarely at fruity summer drinks. It makes no claim to seriousness, leaning entirely on bright strawberry rather than the spirit beneath.

The nose is fresh and red fruited, strawberry over a light alcoholic note. The palate stays berry led but turns dry and a little thin, with the alcohol showing through, before an astringent finish carrying strawberry and a twist of orange peel. The underlying rum largely disappears behind the fruit, which makes it a fun novelty pour and a capable base for a strawberry daiquiri or mojito, but it offers little for anyone hoping to sip it neat.
