Description
An official Tamnavulin single malt, a 19 year old from 1967, drawn from cask 1456 - 1459 and bottled at 43%. Just 1200 bottles were filled. Opened in 1966 during the whisky boom at Tomnavoulin, deep in Glen Livet, Tamnavulin is a light Speyside malt. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016.
Distilled in copper stills fitted with purifiers, for a light spirit, giving the soft, grassy spirit at its heart. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Past a decade the fruit deepens into honey, soft spice and a fuller body. A patient maturation suits the light, fruity Tamnavulin character. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit. Water is drawn from the Easterton Spring, filtered through limestone.
At 43% it is soft, honeyed and fruity. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, honeyed fruitiness. A dried fruit and a gentle oak spice give it depth. The finish runs light, fresh and gentle. This is a soft, cask finished Speysider.
