Description
This official Tamnavulin single malt, drawn from cask Batch 001243 and bottled at 40%. Set in the Livet glen of Speyside, Tamnavulin has distilled since 1966. It stands on the site of a 16th century carding mill; the name means mill on the hill, and the old water wheel survives.
The spirit was run through purifier stills on soft Easterton Spring water, to build a clean, orchard fruit character. A wine cask finish layered red fruit over the fruity malt. With no age statement, it shows a light, fruity body and a soft honey. The purifiers lift only the lightest vapours, giving a clean, fruity spirit. The name is Gaelic for mill on the hill, a nod to the old mill on its grounds. Tamnavulin sits in Glen Livet, close to Glenlivet, Braeval and Tomintoul. The light, clean make takes a cask finish particularly well. The site is home to one of Scotland's largest bat colonies.
At 40% it is smooth and fruity. The red wine cask lends berry fruit and a soft spice, and a light, fruity sweetness meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Beneath it run apple, honey and a soft spice. The close is soft, fruit over gentle oak. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
