Description
A distillery bottling of Tamnavulin, a 32 year old and bottled at 45%. Founded in 1966 in the heart of Speyside on the Livet, Tamnavulin is a light Speyside malt. Water comes from the Easterton Spring, filtered through the surrounding limestone.
The spirit was made in copper pot stills with purifiers that keep the spirit light, for a light, fruity make of real charm. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the light character to the fore. Decades leave it deep and mellow, honeyed wax and dried fruit with great age. Long, gentle ageing turns the orchard fruit towards honey and soft spice. The site is home to one of Scotland's largest bat colonies. Built in the 1960s boom, its industrial buildings sit amid picturesque country. A value priced single malt, it has found a wide audience since its 2016 relaunch. Tamnavulin stands on the site of a 16th century carding mill, its old water wheel preserved on the label.
At an easy 45% it is gentle. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel, with apple, pear and a soft honey. The mouthfeel is soft, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. The finish runs light, fresh and gentle. This is a clean, fruity malt from the Livet glen.
