Description
This official Tamnavulin single malt, a 29 year old release and bottled at 45%. Tamnavulin was first built in 1966 in Glen Livet, beneath the Cairngorms, and it is one of the few distilleries on the River Livet. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit.
Distilled on limestone filtered spring water for a delicate make, building the smooth Speyside style it is loved for. Maturation came in American oak, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. Beyond twenty years the malt grows deep and honeyed, dried fruit and oak spice over orchard fruit. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, the wood adding much of the character. Its modern range leans on cask finishes, the motto single malt, double flavour. The name is Gaelic for mill on the hill, a nod to the old mill on its grounds. Tamnavulin sits in Glen Livet, close to Glenlivet, Braeval and Tomintoul. The light, clean make takes a cask finish particularly well.
Reduced to 45%, it is mellow. Meadow flowers and ripe fruit meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. It closes smooth, fruity and soft. This is an easy going, fruity Speyside malt.
