Description
Blackadder selected this Tamnavulin matured to 29 year old from 1993, drawn from cask 960961 and bottled at 43.4%. The outturn was 385 bottles. Tamnavulin was first built in 1966 at Tomnavoulin, deep in Glen Livet, and it is one of the few distilleries on the River Livet. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016.
Distilled in copper stills fitted with purifiers, for a light spirit, giving the soft, grassy spirit at its heart. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Beyond twenty years the malt grows deep and honeyed, dried fruit and oak spice over orchard fruit. A patient maturation suits the light, fruity Tamnavulin character. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit.
At a full 43.4% it is intense yet fruity. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, honeyed fruitiness. A dried fruit and a gentle oak spice give it depth. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is a soft, cask finished Speysider.
