Description
An official Tamnavulin single malt matured to 28 year old and bottled at 45%. Set on the banks of the River Livet, Tamnavulin has distilled since 1966. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016.
It was drawn off stills whose purifiers lift only the lightest vapours, for a delicate, floral spirit. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and full while keeping its finesse. Cask finishing is central to the modern Tamnavulin style, layering extra fruit. For decades the malt fed the Whyte and Mackay blends rather than single malt. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit. Water is drawn from the Easterton Spring, filtered through limestone. The distillery is now owned by the Philippine Emperador group through Whyte and Mackay.
At 45% it is soft, honeyed and fruity. A gentle vanilla from the wood runs under a clean, honeyed fruitiness. A dried fruit and a gentle oak spice give it depth. A gently warming, fruity finish lingers. This is a soft, cask finished Speysider.
