This Tamnavulin was from the independent bottler Cadenhead's matured to 23 year old from 1992 and bottled at 55%. Just 258 bottles were filled. Tamnavulin was built in 1966 on the River Livet in the Livet glen, and it is now owned by the Emperador group. It stands on the site of a 16th century carding mill; the name means mill on the hill, and the old water wheel survives.

It was worked through purifier stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the light, fruity Speyside make Tamnavulin is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and full while keeping its finesse. Refill oak lets the delicate distillery character lead, grass over orchard fruit. Water is drawn from the Easterton Spring, filtered through limestone. The distillery is now owned by the Philippine Emperador group through Whyte and Mackay. Its modern range leans on cask finishes, the motto single malt, double flavour.

At a hearty 55% it carries real weight. A light, fruity sweetness meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Beneath it run apple, honey and a soft spice. It closes smooth, fruity and soft. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
