A Tamnavulin single malt, selected and bottled by Cadenhead's, a 22 year old Speyside malt from 1992 and bottled at 52.9%. 432 bottles in all. Set in the heart of Speyside on the Livet, Tamnavulin has distilled since 1966. The modern range is known for its cask finishes, the motto single malt, double flavour.

The spirit was made in copper pot stills with purifiers that keep the spirit light, for a light, fruity make of real charm. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Long ageing brings a deeper dried fruit character and a mellow oak spice. A first fill cask works quickly on the light spirit, building flavour fast. For decades the malt fed the Whyte and Mackay blends rather than single malt. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit.

At 52.9%, undiluted, it is deep and honeyed. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel runs under honey, apple and a gentle spice. It is light and fruity, the fruit and oak well matched. A gently warming, fruity finish lingers. This is a fruity Speyside single malt of real charm.
