Description
Bottled by Brave New Spirits, this Tamnavulin, a 13 year old release from 2011, drawn from cask 2313309 and bottled at 54.9%. Only 285 bottles were released. Founded in 1966 in the Livet glen of Speyside, Tamnavulin is a light Speyside malt. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit.
The spirit was run through purifier stills on soft Easterton Spring water, to build a clean, orchard fruit character. Maturation came in American oak, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. By this age the light spirit rounds into orchard fruit and a soft honey. The purifiers lift only the lightest vapours, giving a clean, fruity spirit. Water is drawn from the Easterton Spring, filtered through limestone. The distillery is now owned by the Philippine Emperador group through Whyte and Mackay. Its modern range leans on cask finishes, the motto single malt, double flavour.
At a natural 54.9% it is full and fruity. Meadow flowers and ripe fruit meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, fresh and fruity. This is an easy going, fruity Speyside malt.
