Description
Bottled by Sherwoods, this Tamnavulin, a 13 year old release from 2009, drawn from cask 2521 and bottled at 57.6%. Just 263 bottles were filled. Established in 1966 on the River Livet in the Livet glen, Tamnavulin is a light Speyside malt. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit.
It was worked through purifier stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the light, fruity Speyside make Tamnavulin is known for. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the light character to the fore. By this age the light spirit rounds into orchard fruit and a soft honey. Refill oak lets the delicate distillery character lead, grass over orchard fruit. Mothballed in 1995, the distillery reopened in 2007 and launched its single malt in 2016. Purifiers on the spirit stills keep only the lightest vapours, for a delicate spirit. Water is drawn from the Easterton Spring, filtered through limestone.
Undiluted at 57.6%, it is layered. Meadow flowers and ripe fruit meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, fresh and fruity. This is an easy going, fruity Speyside malt.
