Description
A distillery bottling of Tamnavulin, a 12 year old release and bottled at 40%. Set in the heart of Speyside on the Livet, Tamnavulin has distilled since 1966. It is one of the few distilleries that sits right on the River Livet.
The spirit was made in copper pot stills with purifiers that keep the spirit light, for a light, fruity make of real charm. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the apple and pear bright. Long, gentle ageing turns the orchard fruit towards honey and soft spice. The name is Gaelic for mill on the hill, a nod to the old mill on its grounds. Tamnavulin sits in Glen Livet, close to Glenlivet, Braeval and Tomintoul. The light, clean make takes a cask finish particularly well. The site is home to one of Scotland's largest bat colonies. Built in the 1960s boom, its industrial buildings sit amid picturesque country.
Bottled at 40%, it is rounded. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel, with pear, hay and a floral lift. The texture is light and smooth, the fruit lifted by honey. A gently warming, fruity finish lingers. This is the mill on the hill malt of Glen Livet.
