Description
An official Tamdhu single malt and bottled at 53.8%. Tamdhu, built in 1897 on the banks of the Spey in Speyside, is famed for its sherry cask whisky. Ian Macleod runs Tamdhu alongside Glengoyne and Rosebank.
Distilled in copper onion stills on Tamdhu Spring water, for a rich Speyside spirit built to take sherry wood. Sherry seasoned oak gave the dried fruit richness Tamdhu is known for. Without an age statement, the malt is rich, fruity and sherried. A patient maturation suits the rich, sherried Tamdhu character. The distillery was built on a spot once known for illicit distilling. A full, fruity spirit gives Tamdhu the weight to carry active sherry wood. An in house cooperage was set up in 2019 to manage its sherry casks. Tamdhu sits among the great sherried Speysiders, a sister to Macallan in style. The Spey valley's cool air gives a slow, even maturation in the warehouses. Tamdhu was built in 1897 by a consortium of blenders led by William Grant.
Undiluted at 53.8%, it is layered. The Oloroso brings fig, date and a gingered oak. It is deep and fruity, the sherry and oak well matched. The finish is deep, waxy and spiced. This is a deep, fruity Speyside single malt.
