Description
From Precious Liquors comes this Tamdhu matured to 32 year old from 1988, drawn from cask 2840 and bottled at 46.3%. Only 69 bottles were released. Founded in 1897 in Knockando, Speyside, Tamdhu is a sherry led Speyside malt. Water comes from the Tamdhu Spring, the distillery set on the banks of the Spey.
The spirit was made in copper stills and filled into sherry seasoned oak, for a fragrant, fruity spirit with weight for the cask. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Beyond twenty years the malt grows deep and rich, fig, raisin and walnut over a waxy oak. Long ageing turns the orchard fruit towards fig, raisin and a warm spice. The River Spey runs past the distillery on its way to the Moray coast. Ian Macleod runs Tamdhu alongside Glengoyne and Rosebank. Water is drawn from the Tamdhu Spring on the Speyside site. The distillery was built on a spot once known for illicit distilling. A full, fruity spirit gives Tamdhu the weight to carry active sherry wood.
Bottled at 46.3%, it is rounded. The Oloroso brings a rich, sherried fruitiness. A dried fruit and a nutty oak give it real depth. The finish is deep, waxy and spiced. This is a sherry matured Speyside single malt.
