Description
An official Tamdhu single malt matured to 21 year old and bottled at 47.5%. Tamdhu was established in 1897 on the banks of the Spey in Speyside; its rich, sherried malt has a devoted following. Ian Macleod runs Tamdhu alongside Glengoyne and Rosebank.
Distilled in copper onion stills on Tamdhu Spring water, for a rich Speyside spirit built to take sherry wood. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. At this age it is full and sherried, the fruit folded into a deep, nutty body. A patient maturation suits the rich, sherried Tamdhu character. Mothballed in 2010, the distillery was revived by Ian Macleod and relaunched in 2013. Sherry casks, both Spanish and American oak, define the modern Tamdhu. The name Tamdhu is Gaelic for little dark hill, and the architect was Charles Doig. The River Spey runs past the distillery on its way to the Moray coast. Ian Macleod runs Tamdhu alongside Glengoyne and Rosebank.
At 47.5%, undiluted, it is deep and sherried. The Oloroso brings raisin, walnut and dark sugar. It is deep and fruity, the sherry and oak well matched. Fig, raisin and oak see out a long finish. This is a deep, fruity Speyside single malt.
