Single malt Tamdhu, an independent Sansibar bottling, a 14 year old release from 2006 and bottled at 47.4%. A release of 283 bottles. Tamdhu, founded in 1897 by a group of blenders at Knockando on the River Spey, is famed for its sherry cask whisky. The old Knockando railway station serves as the distillery's visitor centre.

It was worked through onion stills for a rich Speyside spirit, then filled into sherry seasoned casks, the heart of the Tamdhu style. An Oloroso sherry cask wrapped the malt in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Mid age brings a deeper sherry and a riper dried fruit note. Dunnage and racked warehousing on site gives a slow maturation by the Spey. An in house cooperage was set up in 2019 to manage its sherry casks. Tamdhu sits among the great sherried Speysiders, a sister to Macallan in style. The Spey valley's cool air gives a slow, even maturation in the warehouses. Tamdhu was built in 1897 by a consortium of blenders led by William Grant.

At a hearty 47.4% it carries real weight. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, nuts and a soft spice. The mouthfeel is rich, the fruit carried on a sherried body. A warming, sherried finish lingers. This is the sherry cask malt of Knockando.
