A Tamdhu single malt, selected and bottled by Douglas McGibbon matured to 10 year old from 1994, drawn from cask DMG 1925 and bottled at 46%. Established in 1897 by the Spey at Knockando, Tamdhu is a sherry led Speyside malt. Mothballed in 2010, the distillery was revived by Ian Macleod, who relaunched the single malt in 2013.

It was drawn off copper pot stills fed by the Tamdhu Spring, for the full, fruity make that suits sherry maturation. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. Still young, the malt is fruity and sherried with a soft spice. Spanish and American oak sherry casks build the layered Tamdhu profile. Ian Macleod runs Tamdhu alongside Glengoyne and Rosebank. Water is drawn from the Tamdhu Spring on the Speyside site. The distillery was built on a spot once known for illicit distilling. A full, fruity spirit gives Tamdhu the weight to carry active sherry wood.

At an easy 46% it is gentle. The ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and apple over the malt. It is deep and fruity, the sherry and oak well matched. A long, sherried finish carries a nutty depth. This is a dried fruit rich Speyside malt.
