Description
An official Talisker single malt matured to 14 year old from 1991, drawn from cask TD-S: 5GS and bottled at 45.8%. Talisker was first built in 1830 at Carbost on Skye's wild west coast, and it has captured the wild spirit of Skye since 1830. The tall wash stills carry U shaped lyne arms with purifier pipes, and the spirit runs into worm tubs.
Distilled in tall stills with U shaped lyne arms and condensed in worm tubs, from peated Glen Ord malt, building the smoky, briny Skye character. Maturation in Oloroso sherry laid smoked dried fruit over the peat. By this age the peat softens into a rounded smoke with brine and citrus. A patient maturation suits the bold, maritime Talisker character. Carbost is a tiny port on the wild west coast of Skye. The peat is medium rather than heavy, leaving the smoke balanced and coastal.
At 45.8% it is balanced and peppery. The Oloroso brings smoked dried fruit and a nutty depth, and a maritime smoke with a peppery bite sit over a vanilla from the refill oak beneath. A maritime salt and a chilli warmth give it real punch. A long, peppery finish smoulders to the end. This is the maritime malt made by the sea on Skye.
