Description

A distillery bottling of Talisker, a 10 year old release from 2006, drawn from cask TD-S: 5SE and bottled at 45.8%. Founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill at Carbost on Skye's wild west coast, Talisker is the maritime malt of Skye. Its 10 year old was chosen as the Island malt of Diageo's Classic Malts series.

Distilled in tall stills with U shaped lyne arms and condensed in worm tubs, from peated Glen Ord malt, building the smoky, briny Skye character. A sherry cask held it, sherry and smoke twining together. At a youthful age the smoke runs bold and the brine bright. Years in oak round the smoke, the pepper and brine settling with the wood. The peat is medium rather than heavy, leaving the smoke balanced and coastal. Talisker was for nearly two centuries the only working distillery on the Isle of Skye.

At an approachable 45.8% it is balanced. The Oloroso brings smoked dried fruit and a nutty depth, and a coastal peat smoke and a peppery lift ride over a vanilla from the refill oak beneath. The texture is oily and full, the smoke threaded with salt. A long, briny finish ends on black pepper. This is Talisker's smoky, peppery Skye style.
