Description
This Talisker, an official release and bottled at 48%. A release of 6000 bottles. Talisker, founded in 1830 by the MacAskill brothers on the shore of Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye, is a Diageo Classic Malt. Talisker distilled three times until 1928, which is why it keeps two wash stills and three spirit stills.
It was worked through the distillery's looped stills and worm tubs, from medium peated malt, for the peppery, maritime spirit Talisker is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light sweetness under the peat. Without an age statement, the malt is bold, smoky and coastal. Medium peating leaves the smoke balanced rather than overwhelming. After a stillhouse fire in 1960, the five stills were rebuilt as exact replicas. The distillery faces the water across to the hills of Skye. Talisker is made by the sea, and matured within reach of the salt air.
Bottled at a cask strength 48%, it is intense. A quiet vanilla from the barrel, while brine, citrus and a smoky pepper lead. It is bold and coastal, the peat and pepper to the fore. The finish runs oily, smoky and warm. This is a bold Island single malt from Carbost.
