Talisker 30 Years Old

This official Talisker single malt matured to 30 year old and bottled at 45.8%. 1278 bottles in all. Talisker was founded in 1830 by the MacAskill brothers on the Minginish peninsula of Skye, and it is a Diageo Classic Malt and the island's standard bearer. Medium peated malt from Glen Ord gives the smoke, around eighteen to twenty two parts per million.

The spirit was run through the unusual two and three still set up and cooled in worm tubs, for the rich, oily, peppery make at its heart. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the peat and pepper lead. Very old Talisker turns profound, oily and smoky yet soft and waxy. The worm tubs slow the copper contact, building the full, oily body Talisker is known for. Founded by the MacAskill brothers in 1830, it is Skye's oldest distillery. The worm tubs build the full, oily body that carries the smoke and pepper. For most of its life Talisker stood alone on Skye, until Torabhaig opened in 2017.

At 45.8% it is soft, smoky and coastal. Smoke, salt and a warming pepper, with soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft smoke and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. The finish is long, smoky and peppery. This is a smoky, peppery Island whisky.
