Description
Bottled by Hunter Laing, this Talisker, aged 11 year old from 2011, drawn from cask HL 19722 and bottled at 50%. 804 bottles in all. Founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill at Carbost on Skye's wild west coast, Talisker is the maritime malt of Skye. The tall wash stills carry U shaped lyne arms with purifier pipes, and the spirit runs into worm tubs.
Distilled in tall stills with U shaped lyne arms and condensed in worm tubs, from peated Glen Ord malt, building the smoky, briny Skye character. A sherry cask held it, sherry and smoke twining together. At a youthful age the smoke runs bold and the brine bright. A patient maturation suits the bold, maritime Talisker character. The distillery faces the water across to the hills of Skye. Talisker is made by the sea, and matured within reach of the salt air.
Bottled at a cask strength 50%, it is intense. The Oloroso brings smoked dried fruit and a nutty depth, and a maritime smoke with a peppery bite sit over a vanilla from the refill oak beneath. It is rich and smoky, the brine and oak well matched. A long, peppery finish smoulders to the end. This is the maritime malt made by the sea on Skye.
