Description
Taketsuru 12 Years Old is a 12 year old blended malt from Nikka, honouring the company's founder Masataka Taketsuru and drawing on malt from the Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido and the Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture. Released for the global market at 40% and matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, it contains no grain whisky.
Named after the man who brought Scottish malt whisky production to Japan, the Taketsuru range captures the complementary contrast between Nikka's two malt distilleries. Yoichi contributes its typically firmer, coastal and malt-forward character, while Miyagikyo adds softness, orchard fruit and a floral lift. Twelve years in Ex-Bourbon casks build a gentle vanilla and cereal warmth across both components, drawing the contrasting styles into a cohesive and considered blended malt that reflects Taketsuru's founding ambition.
