Description
Takamaka Kreol Cask Reserve Dark Rum comes from the Trois Frères Distillery in the Seychelles, founded by the d’Offay family. It is made from a blend of pot still and column still distillates that are initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in French oak barrels, giving it both tropical depth and traditional wood-derived complexity. This double maturation emphasizes a balance between sweetness, wood spice and subtle oak tannin without pushing the profile into heavy extraction.
This dark rum displays a naturally deep amber colour and a full-bodied palate profile. The initial aroma is rich and aromatic with vanilla, dried fruit, toffee and fine oak spice, supported by deeper fruit components from long interaction with wood. The multi-stage cask exposure draws out lignin and lactone compounds that deliver vanilla and toasted wood notes, while the rum’s congeners contribute molasses and dark caramel layers.
On the palate the rum is smooth and harmonious, showing caramel, spice, dark chocolate and dried pineapple, with a glossy mouthfeel that bridges sweetness and structured oak. The finish is elegant, round and lasting, with impressions of honey, vanilla and delicate wood structure that echo the aromatic profile and reinforce the southern tropical style of Takamaka’s matured expressions.
