Description
Compania de Vinos Trico makes Tabla de Sumar from Albarino in D.O. Rias Baixas, on the Atlantic coast of Galicia. This is one of Spain's wettest, greenest wine regions, where the ocean sits close and rain is frequent, so growers train the vines high on pergolas to keep air moving and fruit dry. The soils are granite and sand, which drain fast and give the wine its saline, stony backbone. Cool Atlantic nights preserve the sharp acidity that defines the grape. The fruit is pressed gently and fermented cool to protect its aromatics, then held on the fine lees, a stage that releases mannoproteins to round the texture and add a light savoury weight without masking the fruit. The colour is pale lemon with green glints. The nose leads with white peach, ripe lemon and green apple over white flowers and a clear briny edge. The palate is crisp and mid weight, driven by salinity and citrus, closing long and clean. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass.
