Pinord makes this kosher Tempranillo crianza in Vilafranca del Penedès from its own Catalan vineyards. Twelve months in oak give it ripe cherry and raspberry over plum, with a measure of sweet spice and a soft, rounded finish.
Description
Taanug Tempranillo Crianza is a red wine from the family winery Pinord in Vilafranca del Penedès, in the heart of D.O. Penedès. The Tempranillo grows on the limestone and clay soils of inland Catalonia, where warm days and cooler nights slow ripening and preserve acidity in the fruit. The grapes are vinified to kosher standards under rabbinical supervision, then the wine ages twelve months in oak barrels. That barrel time runs malolactic conversion to completion, softening the sharper malic acidity into rounder lactic acidity, while slow oxygen exchange through the staves polymerises the tannins and folds in vanilla and clove from the wood. The result is a medium bodied crianza in classic Tempranillo style. The colour is cherry red. The nose carries fresh cherry and raspberry over ripe plum, lifted by spice from the oak. The palate is smooth and balanced, with soft tannins and a savoury, lightly toasted finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees in a standard red glass. It suits roast lamb, grilled beef and aged sheep cheeses, and has the fruit to handle a plate of charcuterie.
