A 22 year Trinidad rum distilled at TDL in 2003 and bottled by Maison Ferrand at 47.8%, dry and strikingly minty with eucalyptus, menthol, yellow fruit and polished oak, an unusually old and characterful pour at a friendly strength.
Description
This is a single year Trinidad rum from Trinidad Distillers Limited, distilled in 2003 and selected for Maison Ferrand's One Time line, a series of limited collector bottlings. TDL is the column still house behind Angostura, working from Trinidadian molasses in the light, fragrant Spanish leaning idiom, and this expression has been aged in ex-bourbon oak and bottled without added sugar.
Two decades in cask, with the higher evaporation of warmer maturation working on the spirit, have produced a notably fresh and herbal profile, dry and minty with eucalyptus and menthol running through yellow fruit and polished, well integrated oak. At 47.8% the strength reveals the detail without overwhelming, and the age delivers depth and typicity that belie the modest price. A distinctive, drier, herb led Trinidad rum that rewards attention and is old enough to be a genuine talking point.
