Bottled by Maison Ferrand under its Plantation line for Delicando, this single cask TDL rum from Trinidad carries a 2016 vintage and six years of age. The base is light, fragrant column-still spirit from Trinidadian molasses, finished here in a cask that previously held mezcal, an unusual choice that can lend a faint smoky, vegetal edge. It is bottled at cask strength, 51.1%, giving it real intensity for a Trinidad rum. Expect soft caramel and tropical fruit from the spirit, brushed with the earthy smoke a mezcal cask tends to leave. Maison Ferrand bottlings can carry dosage, so it may read rounder than a fully dry rum.
