T.D.L Angostura 1787

Angostura 1787 is a fifteen year old Trinidad rum from T.D.L, the Angostura distillery established in 1949 as a light column-still operation. Modern Trinidad rum leans light, smooth and cocktail-friendly, and this aged expression is the sipping end of that tradition, matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 40%.

Fifteen years in oak brings jammy red fruit, quince and citrus with vanilla over oak and a touch of light smoke, all carried on a soft, easy texture. Running through it is the rubbery, faintly industrial note that is a recognisable Trinidad signature, which gives the sweetness a savoury counterpoint. The added-sugar status is not disclosed, though it drinks rounded and approachable in the manner of a whisky finish. For sweet-toothed drinkers curious about aged Trinidad character, it is a gentle, jammy way in without the burn or intensity of higher-proof bottlings.
