Description
Sybille Kuntz Organic Orange comes from Weingut Sybille Kuntz in the Mosel, on the steep slate slopes of the Moselle valley in Germany. Kuntz took over the family winery in the 1980s and reworked it to organic and biodynamic principles, aiming for complex, fresh and modern wines. The Riesling grows on the blue and grey slate that defines the region, which retains heat through cool nights and lends the wine its taut acidity and unmistakable mineral, slatey character. The cool northern climate and long ripening season preserve aromatic freshness. For this wine the Riesling is given skin contact, which adds texture and a light grip and shifts the variety into orange territory, while the maceration is kept measured so the slatey freshness and bright fruit remain to the fore rather than heavy tannin or oxidation. It is vegan. The colour is light gold to amber. The nose shows green apple, apricot, citrus peel and white peach, with dried herbs and a touch of honey. The palate is dry and lively, the Mosel acidity carrying the gentle skin grip and orchard fruit through a long, mineral finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
