Sun Juice Long Pond & Clarendon Carnival Jamaican Rum

Sun Juice built this Carnival bottling from two of Jamaica's funkier distilleries, Long Pond and Clarendon, both Trelawny and Clarendon pot still houses known for fruit-forward, estery rum. Carrying no age statement and bottled at a gentle 42.8%, it is pitched as an accessible blend rather than a serious aged single cask.

The nose brings banana, confectionery, prunes and a solventy edge, while the palate offers wood, banana, more confectionery and tropical fruit, the finish turning to solvent, tropical fruit, allspice and a fresh lift. All the Jamaican marque markers are here, the ester, the funk, the ripe fruit, but softened by the reduced strength into a lighter, more fougueux young blend. Honest about what it is, this is an easy aperitif pour or sharing bottle for drinkers who want to understand Jamaican funk in a friendlier, less fiery format before tackling full-proof releases.
