Description
A Strathisla single malt, selected and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail matured to 8 year old and bottled at 40%. Strathisla was first licensed in 1786 in the old town of Keith on Speyside; it is among the prettiest distilleries in Scotland. Strathisla is the fruity heart of Chivas Regal, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950.
The spirit was made in small copper onion stills for a full bodied spirit, for a rich, fruity make of real depth. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. At a youthful age the fruit is lively and the malt rich. Dunnage warehousing on site gives a slow, humid maturation. The distillery is a centrepiece of the Malt Whisky Trail and the home of Chivas. Gordon and MacPhail have released Strathisla vintages reaching back to the 1930s and 1950s. Dunnage warehouses on site give a slow, humid maturation by the river. The make leans rich and fruity, fuller than the lighter Speyside style.
At 40% it is supple and honeyed. Vanilla and a creamy note from the barrel, with pear, honey and a buttery malt. The texture is rich and creamy, the fruit lifted by honey. Dried fruit and honey see out a long finish. This is a rich, honeyed Speyside single malt.
