From Malts of Scotland comes this Strathisla, a 30 year old Speyside malt from 1989, drawn from cask MoS 19017 and bottled at 52.4%. The outturn was 188 bottles. First licensed in 1786 in the Speyside town of Keith, Strathisla is the oldest working distillery in the Highlands. Water comes from the Broomhill Spring, the distillery set on the River Isla at Keith.

Distilled in short copper pot stills on Broomhill Spring water, giving the honeyed, full bodied spirit at its heart. Maturation in Oloroso sherry laid dried fruit over the honeyed malt. At this age it is rich and rounded, the fruit folded into a honeyed, waxy body. A patient maturation suits the rich, fruity Strathisla character. Few distilleries can claim an unbroken run of distilling as long as Strathisla's. The Isla valley's soft water and old stills shape a honeyed, fruity spirit.

At a hearty 52.4% it carries real weight. The Oloroso gives dried fruit and a warm nuttiness, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a honeyed, creamy fruitiness. A dried fruit and a gentle oak spice give it depth. The finish runs rich, nutty and warm. This is a fruity, full bodied Speysider from Keith.
