Description
Single malt Strathisla, an independent Samaroli bottling matured to 28 year old from 1976, drawn from cask 3480 and bottled at 45%. Only 276 bottles were released. Strathisla, founded in 1786 on the banks of the Isla at Keith, is the home of Chivas Regal. Long scarce as an official bottling, Strathisla was for decades bottled mainly by Gordon and MacPhail.
The spirit was run through onion shaped stills with long necks for a rich make, to build a creamy, orchard fruit character. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the fruity character to the fore. Long ageing brings a deep dried fruit character and a mellow, polished oak. The cool Speyside climate gives a slow, even maturation over many years. Strathisla is the oldest continuously working distillery in the Scottish Highlands, founded in 1786. The distillery stands among gardens by the rushing River Isla. The malt is the fruity heart of the Chivas Regal blend, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950.
At 45% it is supple and honeyed. Apple, almond and a warm spice meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and almond sit behind the sweetness. A fruity, gently spiced finish lingers long. This is Strathisla's classic honeyed Speyside style.
