Bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, this Strathisla, aged 25 year old and bottled at 40%. Strathisla was founded in 1786 by the Isla in Keith, Banffshire, and it has distilled without a break for well over two centuries. Founded as the Milltown distillery, it took the Strathisla name in the 19th century.

Distilled on soft Isla valley water in traditional pot stills, building the classic Strathisla style. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the fruity character to the fore. Around two decades the malt gains a fuller honey and a dried fruit weight. Sherry wood suits the rich make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. Scarce as an official bottling, Strathisla was long bottled mainly by Gordon and MacPhail. The distillery has stood by the Isla since the reign of George III. Short copper pot stills give the rich, full bodied make the distillery is known for. Keith is one of Speyside's old whisky towns, north of the Cairngorms.

Reduced to 40%, it is mellow. Orchard fruit and a creamy honey sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. A baked apple and a warm ginger lift it. It closes long, honeyed and fruity. This is a rich Speyside malt from the home of Chivas.
