Description
From Gordon & MacPhail comes this Strathisla, a 15 year old and bottled at 40%. Strathisla was founded in 1786 in the Speyside town of Keith, and it has distilled without a break for well over two centuries. Water comes from the Broomhill Spring, the distillery set on the River Isla at Keith.
Distilled in short copper pot stills on Broomhill Spring water, giving the honeyed, full bodied spirit at its heart. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. Around two decades the malt gains a fuller honey and a dried fruit weight. A patient maturation suits the rich, fruity Strathisla character. The distillery stands among gardens by the rushing River Isla. The malt is the fruity heart of the Chivas Regal blend, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950. Water comes from the Broomhill Spring, the distillery set on the River Isla at Keith. Scarce as an official bottling, Strathisla was long bottled mainly by Gordon and MacPhail.
At 40% it is smooth and honeyed. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a honeyed, creamy fruitiness. A dried fruit and a gentle oak spice give it depth. A long, honeyed finish carries an almond note. This is a fruity, full bodied Speysider from Keith.
