Description
A Strathisla single malt, selected and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, aged 15 year old and bottled at 57%. First licensed in 1786 in the Speyside town of Keith, Strathisla is the oldest working distillery in the Highlands. Strathisla is the fruity heart of Chivas Regal, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950.
Distilled in short copper pot stills on Broomhill Spring water, giving the honeyed, full bodied spirit at its heart. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. Past fifteen years the fruit deepens into honey, dried fruit and almond. The full bodied new make carries cask character well across long maturation. Dunnage warehouses on site give a slow, humid maturation by the river. The make leans rich and fruity, fuller than the lighter Speyside style. Few distilleries can claim an unbroken run of distilling as long as Strathisla's. The Isla valley's soft water and old stills shape a honeyed, fruity spirit.
Undiluted at 57%, it is layered. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with pear, honey and a buttery malt. The texture is rich and creamy, the fruit lifted by honey. The finish runs rich, nutty and warm. This is a rich, honeyed Speyside single malt.
