Description
A Strathisla single malt, selected and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, aged 13 year old from 2008, drawn from cask 17603109 and bottled at 57.7%. A release of 334 bottles. Strathisla was founded in 1786 by Taylor and Milne in the old town of Keith on Speyside, and it is the fruity heart of the Chivas Regal blend. Strathisla is the fruity heart of Chivas Regal, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950.
The spirit was made in small copper onion stills for a full bodied spirit, for a rich, fruity make of real depth. An Oloroso sherry cask wrapped the rich spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the pear and honey bright. Dunnage warehousing on site gives a slow, humid maturation. Water comes from the Broomhill Spring, the distillery set on the River Isla at Keith. Scarce as an official bottling, Strathisla was long bottled mainly by Gordon and MacPhail.
At a full 57.7% it is intense yet fruity. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and vanilla and a creamy note from the barrel, with pear, honey and a buttery malt. The texture is rich and creamy, the fruit lifted by honey. A long, honeyed finish carries an almond note. This is a rich, honeyed Speyside single malt.
