Description
Strathenry is the name InchDairnie gives the unpeated single malt it trades to independent bottlers and blenders, drawn from the Fife distillery Ian Palmer opened in 2015. Rest & be Thankful Whisky Company bottled this 2016 vintage at 6 years old for its Small Batch #2 range. The outturn was 3265 bottles, released for Europe.
The Fife distillery runs one of only two mash filters in Scotch production and distils through a custom Lomond Hill still, a pot still with six bubble cap plates in its neck for high reflux. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks with a finish in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at 46%, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for a light toffee sweetness, and the Oloroso wood gives dried fruit, with melanoidins reading as fig and raisin and tannins adding a walnut dryness. Young and bright, the malt keeps a crisp cereal core under the cask sweetness.
