Description
This is a Strathearn single malt, chosen and bottled by Douglas Laing, a Highland Single Malt Scotch bottling and bottled at 50%. Strathearn, founded in 2013, is one of Scotland's first and smallest new wave distilleries. Its two tiny stills are alembic copper pots made in Portugal, more often seen in brandy.
Distilled in two tiny alembic copper stills made in Portugal, giving a characterful, oily young make. A small ex-Bourbon cask shaped it, lending vanilla and honey fast. No age is given, but the lively character marks it as young Strathearn. The tiny casks pack a lot of oak into a young spirit, far quicker than a standard barrel. It was the independent bottler Douglas Laing's first ever owned distillery. Strathearn was a forerunner of the wave of craft distilleries now opening across Scotland. The tiny, active casks give a young spirit real depth in just a few years. Everything is hand worked in a single room of the old Perthshire steading.
At 50%, undiluted, it is rich and vivid. The ex-Bourbon lends vanilla and honey over a fruity, oily young spirit. A creamy oat and a warm spice give it real lift. Fruit and warm spice see out a long finish. This is Douglas Laing's craft Highland single malt.
