Bottled by Douglas Laing, this Strathearn from the Old Particular - Single Casks, aged 5 year old distilled in 2015, from cask DL 14430 and bottled at 48.4%. A release of 63 bottles. Strathearn is a micro distillery in deepest Perthshire, founded in 2013 and now owned by Douglas Laing. The small casks work fast, giving real depth even at a young age.

The spirit was made in alembic copper stills more often used for brandy, for a rich, characterful young spirit. A small Port cask brought red fruit to the young spirit. Only a few years old, it is fresh and bold, the tiny casks working hard. A patient long ferment and a slow run give a characterful, flavour packed make. Its two tiny stills are alembic copper pots made in Portugal, the kind used for brandy. Fermentations run very long, up to six days, to coax out plenty of flavour. The spirit matures in small fifty litre casks, a quarter the size of a standard barrel.

At a natural 48.4% it is bold and full. The Port cask adds plum and red berry over a fruity, oily spirit. The texture is oily and bold, the fruit lifted by active oak. The finish runs bold, spiced and lively. This is Strathearn's hand crafted Perthshire single malt.
