Description
Single malt Tomatin, an independent Murray McDavid bottling, drawn from cask Batch Shry-01 and bottled at 44.5%. Tomatin is the soft, fruity Highland malt of a distillery founded in 1897 near Inverness. A very long fermentation, among the longest in Scotch, builds the fruity character.
Worked through onion stills for a light, fruity spirit, for the soft, fruity Highland make Tomatin is known for. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the fruit. With no age statement, it shows the soft, fruity body of Tomatin. Refill oak lets the fruity Tomatin character lead, apple over honey. Malt is bought in, the distillery's own floor maltings having closed in the 1980s. For most of its life the distillery rarely ran to its full capacity. The make is light and fruity, easy to like and easy to drink. Special releases like Decades and Warehouse 6 have marked the distillery's milestones.
At an approachable 44.5% it is soft and balanced. A mellow, fruity character, and raisin and a nutty sherry depth build. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the cask. The close is soft, fruit over gentle oak. This is the soft, fruity Highland malt of Tomatin.
