Description
From That Boutique-y Whisky Company comes this Strathclyde, aged 31 year old and bottled at 45%. Just 2621 bottles were filled. Established in 1927 in Glasgow, on the Clyde, Strathclyde is Glasgow's only grain distillery. Twin Coffey stills run on wheat, with water drawn from Loch Katrine.
It was drawn off continuous Coffey stills from a wheat mash, for a delicate spirit that leans on the cask for flavour. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending coconut and vanilla. Past twenty five years the spirit turns oily and dessert sweet while staying clean. The clean grain base lets the cask speak clearly across long years. Glasgow once held distilleries across the city; today only Strathclyde remains. Aged single grain has become prized for its soft, oily, dessert sweet character. The continuous still gives a clean, high strength spirit that mellows with years. Strathclyde takes its name from the old region around Glasgow.
At 45% it is clean, oily and sweet. The ex-Bourbon gives coconut, vanilla and toffee. It is soft and deep, the grain and oak well matched. The finish runs buttery, soft and warm. This is a rare single grain from the Clyde.
