Description
From Keeble Cask Company Ltd comes this Strathclyde matured to 30 year old from 1994, drawn from cask 456401 and bottled at 40.3%. Only 113 bottles were released. Strathclyde was established in 1927 on the south bank of the Clyde in Glasgow; it has made grain whisky for nearly a century. Twin Coffey stills run on wheat, with water drawn from Loch Katrine.
Distilled continuously in twin Coffey stills from wheat, giving a clean, high strength grain whisky. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending coconut and vanilla. At this age it is rich and waxy, the sweet grain folded into a buttery, oily body. Light grain spirit takes oak readily, the ex-Bourbon lending coconut and vanilla. Strathclyde takes its name from the old region around Glasgow. Decades in ex-Bourbon wood turn light grain into a rich, oily whisky. Strathclyde is the only grain distillery in Glasgow, once one of Scotland's whisky cities.
At an approachable 40.3% it is soft and balanced. The ex-Bourbon gives crème brûlée, coconut and vanilla. It is soft and deep, the grain and oak well matched. Toffee and vanilla see out a long finish. This is a rare single grain from the Clyde.
