Description
Strablegg-Leitner is a Styrian producer in south east Austria, and this Frizzante is built around Gelber Muskateller, the aromatic Muscat that the region grows well. As a semi sparkling wine it is made in the tank method, taking its light carbon dioxide without a lengthy second fermentation, which keeps the grape's floral, primary character to the fore. Fermentation in stainless steel preserves freshness, and the wine is bottled young to hold its scent.
The colour is pale straw with a soft, fine perlage. The nose is openly floral and grapey, with elderflower, white peach and a rose and honeysuckle scent typical of Muscat, and a hint of lychee. On the palate it is light and gently off dry, the fruit carried by a soft spritz to a fresh, easy finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes a fragrant aperitif and suits green salads, fruit desserts and fresh goat cheese.
