Stolichnaya carries a long tradition tied to the Cristall distillery, and the Premium FKP Cristall bottling is its classic wheat expression. Winter wheat gives a soft, rounded mouthfeel, the trait that makes wheat the most popular vodka grain, and the spirit is distilled several times to lift purity. It is then filtered gently through activated charcoal, which pulls out fusel oils and rough congeners, before being reduced with soft water to 40% by volume. That combination of wheat base and charcoal polishing is what gives Stoli its reputation for a clean, even spirit.
The nose is largely neutral, with a faint cereal freshness and hints of citrus and minerality. The palate is silky and lightly creamy, with subtle grain and a touch of white pepper, leading to a clean, medium finish with a gentle spice. That soft wheat body and citrus edge make it a good Cosmopolitan base: 40ml shaken hard with cranberry, fresh lime and a measure of triple sec, strained into a chilled coupe with a flamed orange twist, the vodka's softness rounding the tart fruit.
