Description
This official Springbank single malt, a 10 year old release from 2000 and bottled at 53.5%. Just 800 bottles were filled. Springbank is a Campbeltown distillery distilling since 1828, the most traditional distillery in Scotch, malting all its own barley. The distillery champions the old, slow, labour intensive way of making whisky.
It was floor malted, lightly peated and distilled two and a half times, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. A wine cask held it, layering berry fruit over the coastal malt. Still young, the malt is oily and robust with a coastal lift. Worm tub condensing and an oil fired wash still build the rich, oily texture the distillery is known for. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart.
At its natural 53.5% it is concentrated. Plum, cherry and red fruit from the cask underpins oily orchard fruit, salt and a wisp of peat. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. A long, oily, coastal finish lingers. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
